After a back and forth battle with #2 Wake Forest, #1 Maryland emerged victorious 4-3, winning the ACC Championship in Durham. Maryland defeated Wake and Virginia in one-goal contests to take home the title. This is the 7th time Maryland has won the conference championship in field hockey.
Maryland took the early lead with Danielle Keeley scoring off a pass from Katie O'Donnell. After two goals by Wake soon after, the Demon Deacons led at the half 2-1. They had dominated the shot total 9-3. But the Terps emerged from the locker room on fire. Within the first 11 minutes, Maryland had back the lead from goals by Nicole Muracco and Sarah Scholl, the second being assisted by O'Donnell. But only one minute later, Wake tied the game at three. The big game continued, but by the 68th minute, Muracco fired O'Donnell's pass into the net. That goal would be the game-winner; Terps win 4-3.
With this championship, Maryland is almost assured the #1-seed in the NCAA Tournament starting next weekend in College Park. Congrats to the Maryland Terrapins, and good luck in the tournament.
